Microdermabrasion is an effective and advanced exfoliating procedure which is incredibly popular because it leaves your skin feeling and looking much smoother, more vibrant, radiant and younger. It removes the outer layer of dead skin cells and stimulates the underlying layers which then produce collagen and elastin.
The exfoliation removes blemishes and marks that you may consider unsightly, and the collagen and elastin regenerates the skin, creating a much healthier, rejuvenated appearance.
Areas suitable for treatment
It is usually performed on the face but can be used anywhere. Hands may be treated effectively, and another popular area for treatment is the neck and chest. It is suitable for the following:
- Small scarring and pock marks
- acne scarring, white-heads and black-heads
- Ageing skin
- Skin that is oily, blotchy or flaky
- pock marks and small scars
- fine lines/wrinkles
- large pores
- uneven skin tone and texture
The treatment should not be undertaken on areas of infected or inflamed skin or if you have any cold sores or similar issues. Talk to us for advice on this.
Is it safe? Is it uncomfortable?
The technique that we use is very safe and leaves the skin much less irritated than previous treatments. You might experience some mild discomfort, but this is not a painful procedure. Your skin will feel refreshed, and you may experience a slightly heightened complexion for a day or two after treatment, but this will pass quickly.
After your visit
Treatment usually takes about 30 minutes and you may notice some results immediately. More commonly a course of between 4 and 8 sessions, two weeks apart, gives the best results. You can then choose to have further treatment two or three times a year to maintain the effects. Look after yuor skin with a good quality moisturiser after your visit, and ensure you use a good brand of sun block to protect you.
